What is Rising Stars Theater Troupe?

Rising Stars Youth Theater Troupe is a unique program of Theater For Young Audiences, a
non-profit theater company serving area schools and families since 1989.

Rising Stars offers youth in grades 5 thru 12 the opportunity to explore the world of theater . Under the tutelage of TYA’s professional staff, youth stage plays and musicals as choreographers and directors, create shows as costume, lighting, sound, and set designers, craft shows as stage crew, run shows as stage managers, light and sound operators, and perform as actors while offering the BEST in family theater!

TYA’s Rising Stars Youth Theater Troupe is an opportunity for youth to explore the theater arts in a laboratory setting while watching their ideas come to life in front of an audience! Youth are encouraged to work in teams. For example, 2-3 youth might design the set, lights, and sound together.

PARTICIPATION OPTIONS

ASSISTANTSHIP POSITIONS

Perhaps you need to “get your feet wet” before undertaking a full leadership position. If that’s the case, assistantships are available for youth who want to shadow and assist where s/he is able.

JOB TEAMS/COMBINATIONS

Youth may participate as

Example: The light board and sound operators maybe selected from the set designer, lighting and sound designers. A set designer might stage manage the show.

LEADERSHIP POSITIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Music Director/Accompanist must demonstrate proficient piano skills and knowledge of music. The youth must demonstrate an ability to teach, accompany on the piano, be well organized, and responsible.

Stage Directors must exhibit strong skills in acting and have stage experience as an actor. These youth must be well organized, responsible, enjoy working with people, and have a keen interest in acting & directing.

Choreographers must demonstrate a strong ability and training in dance and creative movement. These youth must be well organized, responsible, enjoy working with people, and have a keen interest in dance and choreography. They must have stage experience as a dancer and actor.

Stage Managers must be extremely organized with attention to detail. They must enjoy motivating and organizing people in a firm, friendly manner.

Set, Lighting, Costumes, Hair/Make-up & Sound Designers do not need prior experience however they should demonstrate a keen interest, willingness to learn, self discipline, organization, creativity, attention to detail & strong work ethic.

PARENTAL PARTICIPATION

Parents are required to provide support as Ushers, Usher Coordinators, Scrapbook Coordinators, Refreshment Coordinators, Refreshment crew, Supper Coordinators, Supper Crew, Merchandise Crew, Merchandise Coordinators.

They will be asked to assist the production as needed in costumes, props, set and to assist with strike. It is understood that the production is “youth driven” however at times parental advice and skill maybe needed.

Parents are required to volunteer up to 30 hours in support.

POSITION APPLICATION PROCESS

TYA offers the leadership positions and assistantships to youth who have the required skills, knowledge and experience, express a keen interest in theater, learning new skills, and problem-solving, exhibit self-discipline, teamwork, responsibility, and a strong work ethic.

CAN I PARTNER WITH ANOTHER PERSON(S) ?

Yes! If applicants fill the requirements and it is determined they will work together.

PARTICIPATION FEE

$15 for production team and performers.
